The Half of It (2020)

Did I watch it because it was potentially gay? Yes. Was I disappointed? No.

This story follows an Asian main character, which is already pretty amazing. She's a hell of a writer sells her skills to her peers, writing their essays for them. She meets a boy who wants her to help him write a love letter to another girl at the school, whom he as a massive crush on. Upon seeing who it is, she agrees.

Through their letter exchanges, she learns a lot about this outwardly beautiful and popular girl, as someone who shares a love of literature and art. She also bonds with the boy, who desperately learns everything he can to make a good boyfriend for her. In the end, this was never a love story.

I found this movie so fun to watch. It created an atmosphere where the friendship was more important than the romance, which is something not seen so often in modern Hollywood.

Chef (2014)

He loves to cook. However, the owner of the restaurant he works at is scared of change and forced him to try to rekindle the same popularity of the restaurant with the same dishes they've been serving forever. It all ended when he blows up on a popular food blog critic and gets fired. He goes off and starts a food truck, learning to humble himself and finding the same passion for cooking he had before.

There's Happy, and Black widow, and Iron man all in this movie. I find that absolutely hilarious.

This movies is directed, written and stars Jon Favreau. I wonder if he just wanted the world to see how cool of a shef he is.

Harry Potter - Rewatch (2001-2011)

I rewatched all of harry potter. Here are my thoughts.

The first one is amazing because it's the first time being introduced (or reintroduced) to this magical world of harry potter. It's so amazing.

They changed directors for the third, and he did such an amazing job in this one. Like it could easily be a standalone movie. The third one is my favorite one.

After to fourth, the story gets dark, and so does the whole set and mood and wow. I have so much respect for Robert Pattinson. Can't wait for Tenet.

I believe the Half-blood prince is the climax, and boy is it one hell of a climax. It sets up the last two movies so well.

I binged the whole movie franchise in 4 days. I loved every bit of it.

Wha'cha fell over for?

John Wick (2014)

john.png

I watched it because I wanted to. Five minutes in, I was in it for the dog. I have never experienced such heartbreak.

An ex assassin leaves his job for the love of his life. Then she dies. Her last gift to him is the cutest hound puppy ever (oh my god). All that changed when his ex boss' son steals his car and kills his puppy. He's bringing out his guns again. And nothing is going to stop him.

What a classic action movie. Lots of guns, fighting, dying. Great choreographed actions with tense heartbreaking scenes. I loved the slow burn to revealing who John Wick is and the weight behind that name. Other than that, it was alright. Maybe I'm too used to the superhero action movies. But apparently the movies get better so I might keep watching?

The Little Prince (2015)

PRINCE.png

This was such a good movie oh my Lord.

It might seem like any other inspirational movie that pushes this ideal future where everything is orderly and perfect. Which it does. But they weave in the aspect of imagination and exploration so well into this story, I can't help but to feel like I am the little girl.

This little girl, under the guidance of her strict mother, hopes to become a successful adult one day, having her whole life mapped out before her. that is until they movie into a neighborhood with a particularly odd next door neighbor. After an airplane propeller incident, she finally meets the old man, who tells her his life's story. In the story, we meet the Little Prince, a boy who loves exploring and making friends. We learn that forgetting your childhood isn't a prerequisite to growing up.

I need to read the book now. Goodbye.

5 Centimeters Per Second (2007)

This movie was directed by the same man who gave use Your name and Weathering with you. Why is this movie so great? Well, let me tell you.

When you think of slice of life, this is the ultimate example. We are introduced to two people, who have a special bond between each other. Yet, life tears them apart, creating numerous hurdles to keep them that way. But with persistence, they hope that their special bond will keep them tethered together, hopefully meeting up sometime in the future again.

What this movie does great is brings the protagonist into a realistic world. As a romance movie, it sows that the world doesn't revolve around the lovers, the world continues no matter how much they are in love with each other. This is real life and it's so unsettlingly real, yet so blatantly relatable.

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power - All of it (2018-2020)

shera.png

In a normal scenario, I would do one season at a time. However, I binged watched this whole thing in 2 days. So that should say something about this show.

In this universe, there is the princess rebellion and the Horde. Adora, an orphan girl who was raised by the horde, she stumbles upon a sword in the woods that turns her into a princess, the enemy she was trained to target. With the help of Glimmer and Bow, she learns more about the true enemy and leads the revolution, saving their planet with the power of She-Ra and love.

God bless the creators of this show. It had created a world so unlike any show, with a diverse range of body shapes, skin colors and distinct and powerful characters. And oh yeah, EVERYBODY IS GAY.

This show means so much to me. Please watch. bye.
